My Parent’s are having their annual Christmas party tonight. Papa Higham has ordered in a keg of beer from a Lake District microbrewery, another annual occurrence. The barrel is currently settling outside so it stays cool and is then ran by pipe to a pump inside where we’ve set up a bit of a bar. Snazzy!
If you like beer, my Dad’s set up is all well and good. But what’s on offer if you don’t? There are plenty of mixers, spirits and wines but this year I’ll be serving, Jeeves & Ginger:
A fruity, aromatic cocktail, helped on it’s way with a kick of ginger and a squeeze of lime.
Much like Pimm’s, Jeeves is described as a ‘fruit flavoured alcoholic cocktail mixer’, £8.50 a bottle but it’s often reduced or on offer – Lidl marked it down to less than £5 this Christmas. Of course you could mix it with soda or lemonade for a classic Summer fruit cup, but I think Jeeves & Ginger is much better.
To make your own Jeeves & Ginger, fill a glass with ice and squeeze in a quarter of a lime. Pour over 1 part Jeeves and 2 parts ginger beer. If you have some to hand, dress it up with diced cucumber, apple slices or mint leaves.
Really simple, no shaking needed. If you’re planning a New Year get together, this might just be the drink for it. You can make up a batch in a pitcher and then you’re free to enjoy the night instead of playing waitress.
I’m off to get ready for our guests. I’m so glad we have things organised between Christmas and New year, it always feels like limbo if there’s nothing planned!
