As you’ll all know by now, the Lavazza challenge I’m taking part in is all about new traditions. After sharing my favourite twist on a classic recipe last week – my Espresso & Pecan Pie – it was my turn to ask you guys what your new tradition was. I wanted to know your most unusual food combinations. Do you put something unexpected in a traditional dish? Are there baked beans hiding where you least expect?
I kickstarted the conversation on Twitter & Facebook and you guys really didn’t hold anything back. I feel like I’ve peeked in on your weakest moment. Some of the suggestions I found a little strange, but you’ll probably think the same of mine. I thought it would only be fair for me to confess first, so here we go:
We have a jar of marmite in our house, but it’s never spread on toast or used in sandwiches. Matt and I both like to add a big spoonful to chilli, bolognese and stews. You’d never really know there was marmite in there, but it adds a rich, savoury flavour and gives the sauce a darker, glossier look. That’s our #newtradition, nothing too strange there I don’t think – although you may disagree.
You guys came up with some crackers. Things I’ve never thought of. Some that I would try, some that I’d avoid like the plague. How many have you tried?
We all have a guilty food pleasure right? A strange concoction that totally works for us but others might not have discovered. Well this post is your chance to tell me all about yours. Have you tried any of the new traditions mentioned above? What’s your unusual food combo?
Follow Lavazza and share your #newtraditions on twitter using the hashtag for the chance to win Wimbledon tickets, a snazzy coffee machine like mine and much more. There are other ways to enter online too, more information here.

mayonnaise and chocolate cake?! that just sounds wrong. However, I have been known to slip a little bit of cherry coke into my chocolate cakes…

I was so confused about the mayo but then I realised it’s just eggs and oil so I guess that makes sense.

I’ve done sour cream in chocolate cake before but never mayo! Crazy!
So glad to see my beans in chilli has made it! Kudos to my bestie for coming up with that!

I’ve never heard of sour cream in cakes! What does it taste like?
Loads of people on Facebook voted for beans in chilli too! I can’t believe I’d never heard of it. x
