Hair grips, kirby grips, hair pins, hair slides, whatever you call them, my Mum’s pet hate is finding mine all over the house. They drive me mad too but for a different reason; they’re just so weak! It takes a ton of them to hold my hair in place and they’re only good for a couple of uses before they start to tire.
My boyfriend’s Nanna suggested I try some pins she’d seen in Boots, but as a girl of thick hair my first thought was “these things never work”. I’d already tried the things that are meant to give you the perfect beehive, bun, tuck, roll, my hair was too thick for all of them! But I hadn’t tried these:
All I have in my hair for this photo is Goody’s Spin Pin. No hair bobble, bun ring, or clips. See that tiny tiny gold bar in the centre of my bun? That is all you see. I imagine in blonde hair that would be near impossible to spot.
Here’s what they look like:
Supposedly they have the hold of 20 hair pins and I’d agree. They’re so simple to use, you just twist your hair up in to a bun and spin these in to the top and bottom. They don’t snag at all , your hair stays put all day and for an added bonus you don’t have any kinks from hair bobbles!
I’ve had mine a year and they’re still perfect, if you’d like to your hands on the best kirby grip alternative, Boots have them in various colours for £5.50
P.S Goody also make mini versions for short or fine hair.

Thank you Efia! You have such a lovely name. It took a lot of guts for me to dye it this colour, I’m naturally dark blonde! x

I’m so glad you love them! They took me a while to get used to them but I really couldn’t be without them now xx

As you know Vicki I am not really a girly girl although I am trying very hard to change that!! So after reading this post I decided to invest in spin pins so I could wear my hair up for first time ever!
I struggled yesterday with them but tried again today and voila! It worked!! I am chuffed 🙂
So thank you for introducing me to ‘girl’s things’.
Hope you are feeling as well as you can be.

I bought another Goody pin for my hair and it was a nightmare. Couldn’t get it to work at all, so will try this. Is there a trick to it?
Vicki Higham says
Hi Dawn, I found this really easy to figure out, just make sure you twist your hair up and then twist the pins in to the middle. I had a bad experience with a Goody hair “roll” clip and was a bit dubious about these but they really really are great!
