Ah yes, you can’t go wrong with a bit of shoe storage porn. Ever since stumbling across these cute shoe cabinets on Pinterest I’ve wanted my own and now that I have a walk in wardrobe (thank you Matt) I have the room.
I’d been to browse the auction rooms but I’m far too impatient to wait. If I set my heart on something I want to buy it there and then; waiting a week for the auction to come around only to be outbid would be torture.
It was time to re-think my cabinet hunt so after a couple of weeks more, I decided to consult my Facebook friends who came up trumps.
It turns out the perfect place to look was my local Hospice’s furniture depot where I snagged this bargain:
Now you need to have a bit of vision, but at £35 and with a lick of paint I’m hoping it will look perfect.
I’m going to go for a slight grey/white chalk paint for the outside- think Farrow & Ball- and a crisp white satin for the inside behind the glass shelves.
Last week I started the rather tedious job of masking off the glass, which, until I started, was my favourite part of the cabinet. An hour or two later, it’s fair to say I’m not so keen!
I’m looking forward to getting the undercoat done and seeing it look a bit brighter but it will be a long project for me. I’ll be doing it a little bit at a time when I’m well enough until then it can sit in my Dad’s new garage and get in his way. 🙂
Is this not the cutest garage you’ve ever seen? My Dad is rather handy!
Let me know what you think
