Here begins my requirements for the perfect summer bedroom.
1. Matlock Silver, 2. Kensington Sea salt 3. Henley Wembley 4. Kensington Driftwood 5. Matlock Snow white 6. Vintage Nutmeg
I’d love to live somewhere warm where the entire house could have hardwood floors without freezing toes, until then, carpet! We do have a carpet in our bedroom at the moment, but it’s quite sorry for it’s self. I’d love to replace it with a new carpet that’s entirely our own and hasn’t been used by the previous owner of our house. I imagine that first step out of bed in the morning would make me grin with the happiness only new home things bring. It’s so exciting doing up your first home!
When I was younger, my room had white curtains and I could sleep through anything, now though, my sleep ins are different. I’m still in bed, I’m still determined to relish the extra hours, but in summer especially they’re broken by the day light. Still, it bothers Matt much more than it does me, but a blackout blind like Hillary’s monochrome midnight wouldn’t go a miss. Perhaps it’s part of getting older?
Here comes the nostalgic, happy childhood memory… These Henley shutters remind me of summers in France and my Great Aunt’s house on hot adventure filled days. We’d swing the shutters open in the morning to let the day’s light flood in and I remember helping to close them all as the sun went down. It was a nightly ritual along with strolls to feed the donkey sugar cubes and a glass of chocolate milk before bed.
I’ve lusted after the this Hive pendant light from Made.com for a long time. I’ve pictured it in my office, above the dining table, in the hallway and now I think maybe it belongs in our bedroom. I love it’s industrial design style and despite thinking the phase would pass, it’s still calling for me. I imagine it will project a cool pattern on to the walls at night too.
I adore the Ikea Alex range. In a strange way, this set of drawers reminds me of the cupboards in the art room at my secondary school. They’re obviously designed for offices, but I think they’d style up really well as bedside tables and unlike most intended bedside tables, they have hoards of storage room. I’d find a tray for the top to keep my bits and bobs in order. I always have a book, some candles and a glass of water on my bedside table. Is it just me that almost always needs a drink during the night in summer?
I still have some pieces to dream up before we get to grips with a bedroom make over. I’d love some colourful art for above the bed, but I’ve seen nothing that’s drawn me in enough yet. I’d also love a huge wardrobe with sliding doors to organise our clothes better and an accent chair which no doubt will play a part in clothes organising too. I’d love to find someone that actually sits on their bedroom chair and never puts clothes on it. Is that you? Own up in the comments, you deserve a medal!
As I find things for our bedroom, I’ll be adding them to my pinterest board, so come and follow over there if you want to see how we get on. This post is part of the #blindofthemonth competition from Hillary’s. I can’t tell you how over the moon I’d be to win. It would certainly give our home renovations a boost! Keep your fingers crossed?
