What a week we’ve had. On Friday, amongst that awful weather and glimpses of snow, our car decided it was time to call it a day. Poor Matt had to ditch it two miles from his work, in some country lanes where phone signal is scarce and walk the rest of the way, completely unprepared for the weather. Ever have ‘the world is against us’ days? It was one of those.
Then Saturday came with it’s gale force winds and Matt and his Mum went on a long drive to look at some cars we’d seen online sixty odd miles away. Of course I’d have loved to help choose our new car but I had a hospital appointment instead. Seriously, who books medical appointments on a Saturday?
Over the past two years I’ve been losing my hearing at quite an alarming rate, it’s part of a condition I have called Cogan’s Syndrome. So there I sat waiting outside the ENT Consultant’s office expecting to be told that things were still getting worse and then hearing from Matt that the car we’d expected to buy had sold before he got there.
Lets stop the pity party there though, it turns out that I had GOOD news. My favourite audiologist informed me that my tests results haven’t changed, for the first time ever. It seems my treatment is working! You couldn’t wipe the grin off my face!
The Consultant was very impressed and although it’s only been three months of no change, that’s still amazing news for us and for my ears. They’ll still be keeping a close eye on my hearing and seeing how the next few months pan out but fingers crossed, it looks like some of the disease is under control for now.
I couldn’t wait for Matt to get home that evening to tell him but since I hadn’t heard from him, I assumed they’d had no luck with the car hunt. Then a shiny new black Astra pulled in to the drive with my boy driving it. Super huge grin.
The car is lovely, my ears are being well behaved, our luck seems to have turned around. What a roller coaster of a week.
P.S. If you’ve read this far, you’ll have realised that the above photo is completely unrelated to this post, unless we call the car Snowdrop – which I think Matt would obtest.
Here, have another unrelated photo of the beck that runs along the edge of our field:

I’m so glad that things are looking up for you guys! A new car is always very exciting – although once the child and dog have spent anything up to 10 seconds in mine it looks more like a tractor!
