Let’s set the scene. You’re in the kitchen prepping your meal for the evening. Your other half is in a different room. You’ve just got yourself an awesome new stereo/radio/cd player. What song do you listen to?
We’re a CD free house so all our music comes through Spotify and I have a playlist I always put on whenever I’m cooking. Given my eclectic music taste, it’s quite a jumble of different eras and styles but it’s fit for purpose. The songs do the trick though, they’re kind of uplifting, energising and put me in a happy place.
I used to just cart my Macbook in to the kitchen to listen to music which worked fine, but takes up valuable worktop space and the sound quality is not amazing. Just before Christmas, that was made a thing of the past. Goodmans offered me one of their new Heritage Digital Radios to play with.
They look like something that’s been transported straight from the 1950s but along the way, someone added some awesome bluetooth functionality and all the features you could need in a DAB radio.
One tap of the left dial turns the radio on and instantly connects it to my MacBook Pro. Two seconds ago the radio was off, now it’s streaming Lorde from my kitchen playlist and the bass is beautifully rich.
The bluetooth works seamlessly up to about 7 metres which is enough to keep my laptop out of the way, but I can use my phone to stream too, which is a bit handier if you normally keep your phone close by anyway.
It also has a jack so that you can plug your phone, ipod, mp3 player etc in with the right cable and an alarm if you fancied keeping it in your bedroom. Oh, and of course it is a digital radio, I just haven’t used that feature much yet, the bluetooth is everything a geeky girl like me could need.
So, here’s my kitchen playlist. If you use Spotify you can subscribe to it using this link and clicking Follow.
Would any of the songs I’ve chosen make it on to your Kitchen Playlist? I’m particularly enjoying Haim at the moment, especially now we’re going to see them on Friday at the Radio 6 Music Festival – Matt has two guest tickets. Their song ‘The Wire’ is well and truly strut-worthy, you can’t listen to it and not want to dance. Infact, I set that as a challenge for you.

I only recognise one song on your playlist–feeling a little old now! I usually just shove Planet Rock on the radio and sing along while I cook, but recently we got a new radio which does the whole bluetooth thing and lets me listen to podcasts (and playlists if I could be bothered putting one together) via the radio. Kitchen heaven! Now, if only it would do the washing up, too…

That radio’s a bit snazzy! My husband’s rigged up some air play thing in our kitchen and I do love me a bit of music to cook to but we’d struggle to cook together, I like a bit of Mowtown or anything that;s 80s, rocky and cheesy.
Love this post though :o)

Pretty much all of those songs are on my phone right now, among many others! The radio looks great, but it’s probably a bit pricey for me. We want a DAB radio for the kitchen, but haven’t got around to buying one yet. I simply use a radio app on my phone and play most stations from that. Saves me some cash.

Such a lovely post – I love hearing about about other people’s kitchen playlists, I just think music and cooking create a special kind of joy. Perhaps I’ll write a post about my playlists soon! x
