What’s your favourite scent in the whole wide world? I like essential oil blends. They remind me of high end spa products like Elemis and Aveda- sheer luxury and something I find instantly relaxing.
To help me turn our new bathroom in to my very own spa, Aromatherapy Associates kindly sent me some of their beautiful fragrance oils to try out. I was lucky to receive both the Relax blend and De-stress pure Frankincense oil. They are both exactly how I’d imagined they would be; soothing, restful and the perfect scents to help you unwind. My personal favourite of the two is Relax. I couldn’t wait to get that scent out of the bottle and in to my room.
The easiest way to do that with essential oils is to make a reed diffuser. If you have one at home, don’t throw that lovely bottle away when it runs out- you can make your own refill pretty easily with things you probably already have at home.
You’ll need:
Empty bottle
Reeds
Essential oils of your choice
1 Tbsp Vodka
1 Tbsp Vodka
Non-fragranced base oil such as almond
Scrap fabric/ribbon, buttons or charms (optional)
Start by adding around 10 drops of your chosen fragrance, you can always top it up if you’d like it to be stronger. Now pour in your oil base so that it just under three quarters fills the bottle. Follow that with a tablespoon of the vodka to help make the liquid more wick-able. If you skip that last bit it might still work ok if you’re using a less viscous oil than sweet almond, without it the scent just evaporates from the reeds much slower.
I tied a ribbon around mine and added a heart charm. It looks so cute sat on my bathroom windowsill. It seems to glow when the sunlight hits it and that boosts the wonderful smell even more. Have you ever had a go at making your own?

Wonderful! Yes, the only thing to watch out for is if the neck of the bottle is very wide it might diffuse too quickly but you can always fill it with cork and cut a hole for the reeds xx
